We use what we consider to be the nicest accommodations in Bhutan (with the exception of the new resorts, which we can book). Hotels in western Bhutan have better standards than ones in the Central and Eastern part of the country. All accommodations are approved by the Tourism Council of Bhutan, Royal Government of Bhutan. Each one is clean, comfortable, offering a warm welcome, friendly smile and restful haven that are much appreciated after a day of cultural exploration. Your hotels in Bhutan will provide you pillows, blankets, sheets, towels, bathroom tissue, and soap. You have to take your own toothbrush, toothpaste, lotions, and other items. All the hotels, lodges and guesthouses are equipped with telephones, fax machines and international dialing and internet facilities.
IN PARO
Tashi Namgay Resort: The resort is set amidst five acres of lush foliage and green lawns. Located conveniently in the heart of Paro but away from the distractions of the main town, Tashi Namgay Resort offers you a calm and peaceful environment within a five-acre compound. A unique blend of traditional Bhutanese and modern architecture has been provided for, yet at the same time offering you all the amenities of a modern lifestyle. The concern for the environment has been foremost in the design as is evident from the layout of the buildings, the use of solar lights, wooden ‘shingle’ roofing and mud-brick walls. Tashi Namgay Resort is an ideal resort for vacationers looking for a calm and relaxing resort that offers an authentic Bhutanese ambience along with all the comforts of a modern resort.
Hotel Gangtey Palace: Built over a 100 years ago by His Highness Dawa Penjor, Uncle of the first King of Bhutan and Kusho / Penlop(Governor) of Paro Valley. The Palace belonged to the Royal Family until the 1930s when it was given to a member of a prominent aristocratic family, Raja S.T Dorji. Today, his grandson is the present owner. In 1928 the Paro Penlop Tshering Penjor constructed the courtyard and renovated the the central structure as the residence for the King of Bhutan when he visited Paro.
Khangkhu Resort: Khangkhu resort is located just opposite and across the river from Paro airport. It is about 10 minutes drive away from both Paro downtown or airport. There are good vies of Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong – National Museum with back-drop of mountains. The hotel has 2 suite rooms, 17 deluxe twin bedded rooms and 1 deluxe kingsize beded room. All rooms have attached toilted with bathtub.
Olathang Hotel: initially built to host the state guests for the coronation of the current King in 1974, this tourist class hotel is spread over 23 acres of lovely pine forest offering comfortably furnished rooms.
Kichu Resort: A tourist-class hotel nestled in the valley, with its 49 rooms of ethnic décor and modern amenities. It is spread over 5 acre with manicured lawns, delightful flowers and an adjoining 500m river bank. (No Website)
IN THIMPHU
Hotel River View: River View is one of the best accommodations in Bhutan. It is situated on the bank of the Thimphu river (Wangchu) and offers 50 well appointed rooms. All rooms have private balconies and sundeck offering beautiful view of the Thimphu river and the capital city. It takes about 10 minutes walk from the hotel to the main town. One of its main advantages is that being on the opposite side of the river, it is quieter than hotels in the town. The property is well furnished with modern look.
Hotel Pedling: Hotel Pedling is one of the Thimphu’s most popular hotels for tourists. It is located centrally, near the Swiss Bakery. Attractive 39 guest rooms with Bhutanese architecture are comfortable and well appointed, giving guests a tranquil place to sleep, rest and relax. All suites and deluxe rooms are equipped with a mini bar.
Hotel Jumolhari: A distinctive boutique style hotel, it is located right in the heart of the city center with easy access to all shopping areas and places of interest.
Yeedzin Guest House: Yeedzin hotel is located near the Thimphu town. It is more like a guest house with simple clean room. Five suite rooms come with attached kitchenette, which is convenient for longer stay. Some of the rooms also have extra sitting area. All rooms are wood paneled and have wooden floors. Access to the room is by long sometimes creaky stairways but otherwise it is quiet, nice place. The restaurant is located on the second floor.

Hotel Druk: The Druk hotel is a part of Druk group of hotels with hotel in Thimphu, Phuntsholing and few more coming up in Bhutan. Druk Hotels are among the pioneers of hotels industry in Bhutan. Thimphu Druk Hotel is located at the center of town, overlooking Clock Tower Square. Its multi cuisine restaurant is noted for Indian food. Druk Hotel in Thimphu offers the choice of Executive floor and Regular Floor with total of 53 rooms. The executive floor is the new wing added in 2005 and their main difference is that all rooms in executive rooms come with separate bathrooms with separate bathtub and shower.
IN PUNAKHA
Hotel Zangdopelri: Hotel Zangtho Pelri is 6 Km south from Punakha town and is located on the slopes of the ridge overlooking the Punakha valley and river. There are villages and paddy fields surrounding near the hotel. The 45 rooms are located in the main building and in the several cottages surrounding it. Every room in of the cottages has private balcony. The main building houses the restaurant, bar and reception. There is also an outdoor swimming pool but there seems shortage of water here and it is not used often. The cottage rooms are great but the reception areas of the hotel need polishing wood floors.
Meri Puensum Resort: A tourist class hotel, the hotel is perched on a hillside, overlooking the beautiful and pristine Puna Tsang Chu and view of the nearby village and surrounding countryside. Rooms are furnished with basic modern amenities.
IN WANGDUEPHODRANG
Y.T. Hotel: Y. T hotel is located conveniently between Punakha and Wangduephodrang, the hotel provides simple and clean accommodation and good food. The establishment is good for its personalized services, being run by a family. Although small, the hotel has 20 rooms and sizes of the rooms and amenities may vary from Bathtub to shower.
Punatsangchhu Cottages: The resort is in Bajo town just 5 km away from Wangdue town. It has 22 rooms surrounded by 18 acres of grassland across the river, which are converting to garden. All 22 rooms are well furnished with attached bath/shower.
Dragon’s Nest Resort: Dragon Nest is a small hotel, located near Wangduephodrang on the opposite side of the Punatshang chu river. The hotel features simple, spacious and clean rooms providing good view of the river, Wangduephodrang Dzong and its town. The hotel has 17 comfortable and identical rooms placed in small buildings. All the rooms have attached bath.
IN PHOBJIKHA
Dewachen Hotel: Encircled by pine forests in the hidden valley of Phobjikha, this is a tourist-class hotel featuring 16 rooms with en-suite bathroom facilities. During the colder months, the rooms are heated by iron stove and hot water bags on the beds.
Phuntshocholing Farmhouse: Very much a locally owned and run property, this very simple guest house gives you an opportunity to experience the rural way of life. There are only twelve rooms with shared bathroom facilities down the corridor (three rooms share one wet-room – which has a shower and a western-style toilet). The rooms are inside the old farmhouse, and are all beautifully and individually decorated in the traditional Bhutanese style, with charming wooden floors and really good quality beds. There is a lovely little garden with a nice sit-out area overlooking the Phobjikha valley, and the farm also houses a traditional hot stone bath in a nearby shed (not the most luxurious of surroundings but exactly as local Bhutanese people experience it!).
IN TRONGSA
Yangkhil Resort: This relatively new hotel is built on a steep hillside next to the paddy field with wonderful views overlooking the gorge, Mangde Chu, and also provides picturesque view of Trongsa Dzong. All 21 spacious rooms are built with modern design combined with traditional Bhutanese architecture. All rooms insulated, and the bathroom has tub and shower facilities. There is a small business centre, gift shop, restaurant, bar, and outdoor terrace patio/garden decorated with a miniature traditional bridge, prayer wheels and a small pond.
Hotel Norling: Located right in the middle of the Trongsa town. It has total of 10 rooms built with concrete structure in Bhutanese design. The walls of the rooms are wood paneled till the middle. The rooms are individually heated by the electric radiator heater, and facilities are basic and simple.
IN BUMTHANG
Kaila Guest House: Kaila Guest House is centrally located with 18 simple but comfortable rooms with attached bath and shower. The property is popular among the expatriates working in Bhutan and government servants on tours. The guest house is a two storied traditional Bhutanese building with the balcony in the front.
Mepham Guest House: The Mepham is a new property in Jakar and is located on the east of the valley side. The rooms are large with wooden floors and traditional bukhari stoves. The hotel currently has eighteen rooms. From the hotel restaurant there are good views down towards the valley.
Hotel Wangduecholing: Wangduechholing was inaugurated in 2009 as a new hotel. Its location is near former Wangdicholing Lodge, which has taken over by Aman Resort. The hotel is owned and operated by BTCL. There are 20 very spacious rooms with twin beds. Most of the rooms have high ceiling. All rooms have Bukhari (fire-wood stove), a sitting area and sit-out balcony. The walls and floors are of hardwood panel. Wangduechholing hotel also has conference hall, a private hall for sit and chat, a bar with spacious lounge, all on the upper level. Its restaurant and reception area are on ground level as you enter.
Yu-Gharling Resort: The Resort is located at a good location from where one can enjoy the breathtaking views of Chamkhar River, temples, paddy fields, villages, cattle grazing, mountains, and the surrounding wilderness. Yu- Gharling has been recently built. At the time of writing, the property was not fully complete and was expected to be finished by October 2010. When complete, Yu-Gharling Resort will 14 rooms in the main building, 30 rooms with balcony in 7 cottages. All rooms offer spectacular views of Chokhor Valley. The Resort has separate Bar with pool table, foosball and great collections of wine. The dinning offers a sitting capacity of 120 where Continental, Chinese, Indian and Bhutanese dishes is served. Yu-Gharling is also equipped with full fledged SPA- Health Club, consisting of Sauna, Steam, Jacuzzi, Traditional Stone Bath and Massage. It is well equipped with two separate conference hall for 25 & 100 people at one sitting with wireless network. A business center, a separate café & a tea room at the lobby and at the Spa lounge.
Chumey Nature Resort: Located on a hillside in the pristine Bumthang valley, dotted with villages and ancient temples spread out against a stunning backdrop of mountains, our resort provides a haven of peace and quiet where one’s soul may unwind. Enjoy pleasant walks among the lichen-hung trees, the undisturbed song of myriad birds at break of day, the silence of night but for the sighing of the wind through the pines, the serenity of a traditional hot stone bath. Jakar town or Chamkhar is around 20 minutes drive east from here.
IN MONGAR
Hotel Druk Zhongar: Druk Zhongar hotel is one of the newer establishment located in Mongar town with modern facilities. The lodge has 18 spacious rooms with attached bath, hot and cold running water.
Hotel Druk Zom: One of the newest addition in Mongar. It is located on the east-west highway overlooking the Mongar town and also has good view of the Dzong.
IN TRASHIGANG
Druk Doethjung Resort: Kelling Lodge offers breathtaking views of the Trashigang valley. This traditional style tourist lodge offers basic accommodation. It is only about 20 minutes walk from the fascinating crossroads town of Trashigang, which attracts a unique ethnic blend of villagers from all over Eastern Bhutan.
Druk Doethjung Hotel: One of the few hotels in Trashigang that cater to the tourists visiting the largest district in the country. Druk Doethjung hotel is located right in the centre of the town with the huge prayer wheel in the front. It has total of 12 rooms with basic amenities but it is quite well maintained.
IN SAMDRUP JONGKHAR
Hotel TLT: Located in the centre of the town, with 17 double rooms. Services and facilities provided are adequate with sizeable rooms.
IN PHUENTSHOLING
Hotel Lhaki: Located at Pelkhil Lam, upper Phuentsholing, it is one of the best establishment in town having well furnished rooms with modern day amenities making the guests’ stay comfortable. The hotel is a five storey building with traditional exterior architectural details and modern interiors with lots of natural lights, four storey atrium with wide corridors.
Royal Orchid Hotel: Royal Orchid is a brand new hotel opened on 1st August, 2009. It is situated opposite the main office of FCB, away from hustle and bustle of the town but barely 10 minutes walk if you need to get there. It comprises of 24 spacious and comfortable rooms. All rooms are air conditioned and provide travellers/visitors with an array of amenities such large LCD TV, mini bar, Tea/Coffee maker and work station with high speed internet access. All the bathrooms have bath tubs with mini showers.
Hotel Druk: Hotel Druk is the oldest tourist hotels in Phuentsholing. It is one the best hotels in the town and well located with private drive through. In 2009, the hotel was going through major renovation and update. All the floors had hard floor, very modern and comfortable bedding and bathroom facilities.
